THE CLOD AND THE PEBBLE 'Love seeketh not itself to please, Nor for itself hath any care, But for another gives its ease, And builds a heaven in hell's despair.' So sung a little clod of clay, Trodden with the cattle's feet; But a pebble of the brook Warbled out these meters meet: 'Love seeketh only Self to please, To bind another to its delight, Joys in another's loss of ease, And builds a hell in heaven's despite.'

PIPING DOWN THE VALLEYS WILD Piping down the valleys wild, Piping songs of pleasant glee, On a cloud I saw a child, And he laughing said to me: 'Pipe a song about a lamb!' So I piped with merry cheer. 'Piper, pipe that song again.' So I piped: he wept to hear. 'Drop thy pipe, thy happy pipe; Sing thy songs of happy cheer.' So I sung the same again, While he wept with joy to hear. 'Piper, sit thee down and write In a book, that all may read.' So he vanished from my sight, And I plucked a hollow reed, And I made a rural pen, And I stained the water clear, And I wrote my happy songs Every child may joy to hear.

To Tirzah 02:59
TO TIRZAH Whate'er is Born of Mortal Birth Must be consumed with the Earth To rise from Generation free: Then what have I to do with thee? Didst close my Tongue in senseless clay, And me to Mortal Life betray. The Death of Jesus set me free: Then what have I to do with thee? The Sexes sprung from Shame & Pride, Blow'd in the morn, in evening died; But Mercy chang'd Death into Sleep; The Sexes rose to work & weep. Thou, Mother of my Mortal part, With cruelty didst mould my Heart, And with false self-deceiving tears Didst bind my Nostrils, Eyes, & Ears:

London 03:54
LONDON I wandered through each chartered street, Near where the chartered Thames does flow, A mark in every face I meet, Marks of weakness, marks of woe. In every cry of every man, In every infant's cry of fear, In every voice, in every ban, The mind-forged manacles I hear: How the chimney-sweeper's cry Every blackening church appals, And the hapless soldier's sigh Runs in blood down palace-walls. But most, through midnight streets I hear How the youthful harlot's curse Blasts the new-born infant's tear, And blights with plagues the marriage-hearse.

A POISON TREE I was angry with my friend: I told my wrath, my wrath did end. I was angry with my foe: I told it not, my wrath did grow. And I watered it in fears Night & morning with my tears; And I sunned it with smiles, And with soft deceitful wiles. And it grew both day and night, Till it bore an apple bright. And my foe beheld it shine, And he knew that it was mine, And into my garden stole, PARTE FINAL When the night had veiled the pole; In the morning glad I see My foe outstretched beneath the tree.

Nurse's Song 02:39
NURSE'S SONG When the voices of children are heard on the green, And whisp’rings are in the dale, The days of my youth rise fresh in my mind, My face turns green and pale. Then come home, my children, the sun is gone down, And the dews of night arise; Your spring & your day are wasted in play, And your winter and night in disguise.

INFANT SORROW My mother groan'd! my father wept. Into the dangerous world I leapt. Helpless, naked, piping loud; Like a fiend hid in a cloud. Struggling in my father's hands, Striving against my swaddling bands; Bound and weary I thought best To sulk upon my mother's breast.

EARTH'S ANSWER 'Selfish father of men! Cruel, jealous, selfish fear! Can delight, Chained in night, The virgins of youth and morning bear? 'Does spring hide its joy, When buds and blossoms grow? Does the sower Sow by night, x2 Or the plowman in darkness plough? Earth raised up her head From the darkness dread and drear, Her light fled, Stony, dread, 'Break this heavy chain, That does freeze my bones around! Selfish, vain, Eternal bane

Not To See 01:54
NOT TO SEE They just choose... not to see Put the looser aside, release your eagle inside.. ..just let it out!! (You really have to try.. to overcome Stagnation)

The Tyger 04:29
THE TYGER What the hammer? what the chain? In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? what dread grasp Dare its deadly terrors clasp? In what distant deeps or skies Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand, dare sieze the fire? When the stars threw down their spears, And water'd heaven with their tears, Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

ON HIS HEAD A CROWN In his arms he bore Her, armed with sorrow sore; Till before their way A couching lion lay. Turning back was vain: Soon his heavy mane Bore them to the ground, Then he stalked around, Smelling to his prey; But their fears allay When he licks their hands, And silent by them stands. On his head a crown, On his shoulders down Flowed his golden hair. Gone was all their care.
